Growing up in poverty can often limit a young person’s worldview, especially when compounded by negative influences online and on social media.
At the Harrow Club, we’re dedicated to broadening these horizons and providing what we call “First Chances.” Through partnerships with youth organizations around the world, we create opportunities for young people to explore new cultures, develop empathy, and see beyond their everyday environments.
As part of our 140th-anniversary celebration in the summer of 2023, we hosted an incredible international summer camp, welcoming 38 young people and staff from France, Germany, and South Africa, who joined over 50 of our own members and team. This week was packed with activities that bridged cultures—sports, music, art, games, shared meals, and camping created connections and understanding that surpassed language barriers. This experience didn’t just end with the camp; it has opened doors for future youth exchanges and international visits, further strengthening our global partnerships.
We’ve seen how meeting peers from other parts of the world can spark meaningful, lasting changes in young people’s lives. Building friendships across borders fosters empathy and understanding that inspire positive perspectives and lasting respect for others. In a world where intolerance and division can seem louder than ever, we are proud to foster global citizenship and understanding, giving young people the tools to challenge misconceptions and embrace diversity.
Our international youth work continues to be a vital part of this mission, building pathways that connect young people to the world—and to each other.
